16. Bell Inn
Originally the Church House, now the ceremonial site for the launch, and official opening of the annual Modbury May Fair, commencing with the Glove Ceremony. The name was changed when the bell, which hung above the yarn market, was transferred to the building when the market was demolished.
The road that follows up the hill is known as Galloping Street shortened to Galpin Street. At the top is the battlefield site, where the Civil War Battles of 1643 were fought; this is the starting point of one of the Parish Countryside walks. The battle of 1642 was fought within the town when extensive damage was done.
Retrace your steps turning left into Poundwell Street to the second car park.
